Troubleshooting download problems

If you experience problems downloading any of our documents here, you might find answers in this section.

If the document has a password:

  • The document won't accept your password, and you know it's the right password.
It is possible we have changed the password since we gave you the one you have.
Please contact us to verify the password.

  • Passwords are case sensitive and almost always lowercase (except in the case of our Order-Entry system).  Check your CAPS lock and the indicator light on your keyboard.

You left click the document and get a blank screen:

  • Some documents are extremely large - over 800 pages.  The screen stays blank while the document is downloading but you can see the progress with the "thermometer" in your browsers progress window (usually at the bottom).

  • You probably don't have Adobe Acrobat Reader installed, or, it has become "dissociated" with the industry standard PDF files here.  Please click the Adobe icon below and simply reinstall it.

  • Alternatively, RIGHT click the download document icon and save the document somewhere on your disk.  Then open Adobe Acrobat and open the Pens, Etc. PDF document.

You left (or right) click the download icon and nothing happens.

As a last resort, just ask us to send you the document.  We can do this in one of two ways:  Either we e-mail it to you or we send it to you on CD-ROM.  Be aware that most ISP's will not permit you to receive excessively large e-mails - typically no more than 10Mb.  These files are larger than that.  Most "in house" e-mail systems won't have a problem.

Adobe Acrobat Reader is free.

Get Adobe Reader logoIf you do not have Adobe Acrobat, you might as well get it.  Pretty much all documents on the web, including those from the US Government and most large corporations, are available in Adobe format.  The software is free.  You may click this icon, download, and install.  Like Pens, Etc., Adobe never sends out spam mail and never sells your name to anyone.

Can't read the small print on your downloaded documents?

The documents, and in particular, the cross reference listings, utilize very small print.  You can use the "zoom" buttons in Adobe Acrobat  to make any page more readable.
